Gloria was born in Decatur, Illinois on June 11, 1935 to William Dewey and Louise(Knorr) DeLaughter. A child of German immigrants, Gloria grew up with rich cultural background balanced by humble ideology, and more than enough love. Her zeal for motherhood was unparalleled. Growing up, she developed a fierce level of independence and raw determination. She would always refer to being a "Stubborn old German". In 1952 while viewing a live band called "Meryl Lindsay and the Oklahoma Nightriders", Gloria met a charismatic fiddle player by the name of Jimmy Young. For 60 years, the two spent every day together with a love that is seldom seen in time. Gloria encouraged her family in their music careers and was known as "Mom" by many notable musicians.
Gloria is preceded in death by parents, brothers August, Julius, and William(Billy Ray), sisters Nancy Jo Walker, and Kora Knorr; and her beloved Jimmy who passed in October of 2014. Gloria's memory will be cherished by her sons Jimmy who took up the drums and his wife Jonie, and Dale who took up the guitar and his wife Amanda. Gloria also leaves her grandchildren Dustin Young, and Marylyn Jean Young; and two adopted grandchildren.
