Herman “Sonny” Wallar, age 74, passed away February 5, 2014. Sonny will have a private family service and burial with Pastor Dale Bigham, Arden Road Baptist Church, officiating. Herman was born in Ravia, OK and moved to the Texas Panhandle in 1950. Sonny received Christ into his heart at the former Grace Baptist Church in 1955. He was a member of Arden Road Baptist Church. Sonny was the lead singer for the Grace Baptist and Southwest Baptist Quartets for many years. Sonny was the music minister for Temple Baptist church for three years and music minister for Southwest Baptist Church for six years. He sang solo until his health began to fail. He loved gospel music and his church family. Sonny and his wife Judy led worship services for the seniors at Seville Assisted Living Estates for five years and one year at the Potter House Assisted Living. Sonny was Sunday school director for his class for many years and participated in various facets of service at Southwest Baptist Church and Coulter Road Baptist Church for over thirty years. Sonny attended Sam Houston Jr. High and Amarillo High School. Sonny worked in the sales field and was a sales associate for Texas Furniture for thirteen years before his retirement in 2005. He was an avid OU football fan and enjoyed playing golf. Sonny was an honest, gentle, fun loving and hardworking man. Sonny was a loving husband and dad. He always had a great smile and laugh and was very much a people person. The family would like to thank his doctors for their special care all these past 12 years; Dr. Jake Lennard and his nurse Donna; Dr. Daniel Hendrick, Dr. Lane Cox, Dr. Sean Milligan, Dr. Jeffrey Cone, Dr. Michael Hodges, and Dr. Scott Bass. Also out thanks to the entire loving and caring staff at BSA Hospice and Dr. Daniel Jenkins.
Sonny was preceded in death by his dad, Jesse Joe Wallar, his mother, Virgin Waller and a sister, Lavada Pelham
Sonny is survived by his wife, Judy; son Rich and daughters, Kathy, Gloria. Misty, Amy and Tammy; 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to Arden Road Baptist Church Youth Ministry for their mission trip to Zambia.
