Mr. Wiley was delivered into this world by a neighbor lady, on September 8, 1932 in a small house just outside of Strawn, Texas. He was the son of William Oliver Wiley and Nina Zuleka Harris Wiley. He graduated from the Cross Plains High School where he played on the 1950 District Champion football team. Shortly after he turned 18, he volunteered for the Army and served overseas during the Korean War.
Mr. Wiley settled in Amarillo where he worked at the post office while studying under the GI Bill. Upon graduation from West Texas State University, he put his accounting degree to use as an auditor with the Internal Revenue Service where he worked for 30 years. In 1986, he opened a tax office, Wiley & Honnell, where he enjoyed helping his clients for many years. Others who would fondly remember Mr. Wiley, include the Kiwanis Club members, Westgate Mall early morning walkers and The Single Seniors dancers.
Mr. Wiley spent his golden years at the Clairmont Retirement Community, making friends and celebrating life. He has also particularly enjoyed sharing the many sporting, community and family activities of the Key family. In his final years, Mr. Wiley moved to Preston Place in Sherman, Texas to spend more time with his family.
Mr. Wiley was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 44 years, Peggy Marie Powers Wiley, and his only son, Stanley Allen Wiley, who was slain while serving as a Peace Officer at the Clements Unit in Amarillo.
Mr. Wiley is survived by his beloved companion of many years, LaQuita Key; his daughter Margaret Robertson and her husband Donald; his daughter Catherine Nall and her husband Joseph; his grandchildren Melinda and Brian Morton, Rachel Nall and Bryce Moore, Joseph David and Yessika Nall, Michael and Vanessa Nall, and Shannon and Jacob Ashcraft; and his great grandchildren Brendan and Peyton Morton, Joseph Nall IV, George, Sarah and Sophia Nall, and Winry and Mara Ashcraft. He will be remembered by his many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held April 1, 2026 at 10:00 am in the Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Chapel 5400 Bell St. Amarillo, Texas 79109
