Inez Vargas

Inez was born March 2, 1927 in Coolidge, Texas to Gregorio and Guadalupe Martinez. She married Ruben Olivarez in 1943. On March 8, 1970 she Julian Vargas and moved to Amarillo. Inez was the loving mother to one daughter and eight sons. She had numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Inez worked for Caprock High School until her retirement in the early 1980’s. Her hobbies included her kids, grandkids and great grandkids, her plants, camping with family, traveling with family and her two Schnauzers, Maya and Goldie.

Inez had a beautiful and giving heart and by her example, taught those around her how to give unselfishly, and about endless capacity to love. She was a woman of God, with just enough sass in her to keep everyone laughing and on their toes. You never went hungry at grandma’s house.

Inez will be missed by her family and friends, who rejoice in knowing that she has started a new journey, and the best is yet to come.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to Inez’s two loving daughter in laws Josie Olivarez and Tracy Olivarez her favorite “bolia” and her two nieces Gloria Guzman and Anita Lopez for their exceptional care and support in her final days.

Inez is preceded by her husband’s Ruben Olivarez and Julian Vargas, sons Ernest Olivarez and Ysabel Olivarez, granddaughters Mila Hernandez, Debra Cairns and great granddaughter Cyrene Reyes.

She is survived by a daughter Rita Reyes and husband Alfonso of Amarillo, sons Jesse Olivarez of Amarillo, Ruben Olivarez and wife Louisa of Waco, Louis Olivarez and wife Betty of Amarillo, Ernest Olivares and wife Anita of Belen, NM, Paul Olivarez and wife Bert of Amarillo, Joe Olivarez and wife Robin Haidnk of Amarillo.
