James "Jim" Clifford Durbin

James “Jim” Clifford Durbin, 83, of Amarillo passed away on February 1, 2021.

A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.

Jim was born on September 18, 1937 in Leitchfield, Kentucky to Sam Frank and Connie (Decker) Durbin.

Jim loved his country and proudly served in the United States Navy from October of 1954 to September of 1973. He served in Vietnam and retired from the Navy as a Chief Machinist Mate. Following retirement, he married Kay Smith in 1975. He then joined and would finally retire from Military Sealift Command as Chief Engineer.

Jim had many hobbies. He loved to fish, work on cars, and was an avid golfer; to which he held the acclaim of “TWO hole in ones!”

Jim is preceded in death by his parents Sam Frank and Connie, brothers Charles and Tommy Durbin, and his sister Ann Brown. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Kay (Smith) Durbin of the home, children Clay Durbin and wife Linda of Calhoun, KY, Dawn Stridde and husband Scott of Las Vegas, NV, Cynthia Durbin of Houston, TX, Kim Durbin of Las Vegas, NV, Brandon Durbin and Joanna Malecka of Rockwall, TX, and Brooke Durbin of Amarillo, TX. Jim also leaves behind his loving grandchildren Carol Ann Deaton and husband Joe, Abigail Crabtree and husband Drew, Aaron Cage Durbin, Jillian Haskell and husband Brian, Alyssa Bennett, Kyler Murphy, Reece Durbin, and Rance Friemel; as well as great grandchildren Harrison and Grant Haskell, and his brother Chester.

Jim was my patient for many years. I always enjoyed visiting with him. He gave me a set of golf clubs probably 15-20 years ago. I will miss him.
