James Doyle Golden

Visitation will take place on Wednesday October 7, 2020 from 5pm to 7pm at Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors; 5400 Bell St in Amarillo. A celebration of James’ life will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2020 at 2pm in the Funeral Home’s Pioneer Chapel with Donovan Golden presiding. Burial will follow in Llano Cemetery East.

James was born in Avery, Texas on July 25, 1944, to Tony Debbs Golden and Vivie Ethel Jones Golden. He married Donna Taylor on February 8, 1964. They had two children, James Randall Golden and Kimberly Shalon Golden Akins. Donna passed away on August 29, 1996. James married Jo Lynn Hickenbottom Applegate on May 15, 1999. James did a variety of jobs during his life. He was an over the road truck driver delivering grain for Acco Feeds and Jay Lines. He worked for Montgomery Wards doing truck tire services. He then started his own business as James’ Tire Service. He performed this work for a good number of years. He worked for Scrap Processing prior to retiring from working full time. He then decided he needed to stay busy and he purchased his own tractor with mower and began mowing commercial lots for various customers. He never met a stranger. He was a hardworking man that loved his family and friends. He will be missed by everyone that he came in contact with.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Tony and Vivie Golden; wife of 32 years, Donna Golden; two brothers, Lloyd Golden and Tony Lynn Golden; and one sister, Patricia Golden Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Lynn Golden of the home; Son, James Randall Golden (wife Leah) of Taylor, TX; Daughter, Kimberly Shalon Akins (husband Jay) of Amarillo; Son, Jackie Skaggs (wife Skeeter) of Amarillo; Daughter, Michelle Skaggs of Amarillo; Daughter Kimberly Brooks (husband Ross) of Amarillo; Son Roy Applegate (wife Stephanie) of Amarillo; Two Brothers, Raymond Golden (wife Linda) of Amarillo; Harold Golden of Oklahoma City, OK; 19 Grandkids & 18 Great-Grandkids; and numerous Nieces and Nephews.
