When I was 10 years old, in about 1958. I modeled for my mother's life drawing class in Amarillo. Mrs. Hartenstein came in from the painting class next door, and did an oil of me in my leotard and ballet shoes. The painting is a masterful mix of realism and impressionism. My mother asked if she would sell her the painting, which she did, reluctantly. I treasure the painting. Joan Hartenstein has been a part of the folklore of our family for 60 years. (I cannot upload a photo of the painting as it is currently in storage.) Condolences to her family.

So sorry for your loss Ward. She was a great woman and a special friend. When I met Joan many years ago I felt like I had know her for years. She was so engaging. Always interested in your life. She loved being on Facebook and always responded to the silly pictures I would put up of my dogs and of me. She was a very creative woman which I am not surprised after seeing how creative her son is. Joan you will be missed. RIP my friend.
