In loving Memory of our beloved Joe "Joey" Lawrence Rivera III 9/12/01 - 9/14/20

Joe (Joey) Lawrence Rivera III, 19 of Amarillo, TX passed away Monday September 14, 2020.

The family will receive guests at the Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40 on Sunday, September 20, 2020 from 5pm to 7pm. Rosary will follow at 7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 21, 2020 at 2pm in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cathedral, 1200 S. Washington in Amarillo. Burial will follow in the Llano Cemetery East section. Joey was born to Joe Rivera Jr. and Monica Rivera in Torrance, CA where he embodied the California lifestyle before moving to Amarillo TX at the age of 7. Joey was a great blessing to this world and was tragically taken too soon.

Joey was a loving boy who wore his heart on his sleeve. He loved his family with a fierceness especially his sister. He excelled at any sport he tried and was a true athlete. Skateboarding was a passion of his that came so natural since he was 5 years old and even won a few tournaments. Joey had a laugh and smile that would brighten everyone’s day. He was a constant jokester just so he could make those around him smile and laugh too. He attended Caprock HS and took up painting and general construction work as a profession. His honesty and straightforwardness came so natural to him. He provided true friendship to those he loved including his family pets, kitty, lucky, Roxy, and Cocoa the hedgehog.

May he Rest in Paradise and have the peace he was looking for on earth. Joey truly was a beautiful soul with a free spirit that had so much more life to live. If love could have saved him, he would have lived forever. May his spirit live on in us all.

He is preceded in death by his Grandpa Henry Ponce, Great Grandparents Thurston Rosson, Carol McCabe, Eugene Keno Ponce, Esquiel Lita Gonzalez, Joe Padilla, and Adelina Padilla who were waiting with open arms at Heaven’s gate. He is survived by his father Joe L Rivera Jr., Mother Monica Rivera, Sister Muriah Rivera, Brother Jesse Rivera, Grandparents Farol Rosson, Joe Rivera Sr., and Ida Ponce. Many Aunts, Uncles, and cousins.

I have memories of Jojo as a little boy when he was my neighbor in Torrance, California. He lived next to us in apartment #4 with his parents and baby sister, Muriah. JoJo was such a sweet and adorable little boy. He and my middle son, Jacob were just 2 years apart so they were the little guys trying to keep up with the big kids in the courtyard. JoJo always had a huge smile from ear to ear and wasn’t shy if asked a question, he always had a story to share. I am heartbroken to hear of his passing and will forever hold the many wonderful memories he shared with my boys while living at the Emerald Court Apartments. May you rest in paradise Joey “JoJo” Rivera. The Jurados will never forget you ❤️

Mannnn, I remember meeting Joey over the summer, i has instantly knew we were gonna be friends. He was the energy of the room always making everybody laugh, After that I was always wanting to hangout with Joey. He was always giving me advice about not growing up too fast. Always going all in for the people he loved. I have many memories with my friend that I will cherish for the rest of my days. If you knew Joey you knew he was one of a kind and you also knew he took care of the people he cared about. Joey will be greatly missed knowing all the people that love him. I will never have another friend like Joey. Rest in paradise homie. Your legend will live on in our hearts bro 💙 there’s nothing I wouldn’t give to hop on ps4 one last time and have hours of laughter

I met Joey through a friend and from the then he always had a positive energy. His laugh was contagious and always looked out for the people he loved. There will never be another Joey, he was always good to be around as whole without a doubt. Joey, you were one of the closest people i have met since i moved here to Amarillo a few years ago. I cherish the moments we had its like you were just texting me to get on the game. We use to always crack the most jokes and im glad i got to experience that type of bond. No matter what bro i wont forget about you, it was an always an adventure when were together. We’ll all miss you forever, I know you’re watching from above waiting for us. I love you and safe wishes to you and your family. Fly high, until we see each other again, brother 4E ♥️

Well it all started off in 1st grade, Joey Rivera the transfer student. We became best buds ever since then, always went to his house to stay the night after school on a Friday. Would try and talk our moms into letting me stay at least two days, it always worked. Joey and I did nothing but play video games, watch movies, or just play with Star Wars action figures. But then came middle school and we couldn’t really hangout as much until the weekends, we also found out that we moved just down the street from each other. So our little get togethers came back, literally did the same stuff every time. There was never a dull moment. After 7 years of friendship, just a random day we figured out we were actually related. Not only were we best friends but we became best cousins if that even makes sense. Joey and I had a special bond, he was basically my brother. Joey is the reason i skate till today and my style is what it is. I love joey so much, and I will keep living on for you brother. Until we meet again. Brothers 5ever <3

I remember having Joey in my 2nd grade classroom. He was a little
guy with a big heart. I remember how much he loved to skateboard. We would talk about him going to the skate park and all of the tricks he could do. I am so sorry to the family for your loss. May God bless your hearts and bring you peace.
