

Joe Ray Swann, of Amarillo, died Friday, August 4th. Joe was born September 16, 1926 to Jack and Rosa Swann in southeast Potter County. Joe was born on the farm, and farming was in his blood all his life. He farmed with his father, and was later joined by his son in the family business. Joe married Lila Edwards on August 23, 1952. They resided on the family farm east of Amarillo.
Joe loved rooting for any teams his grandchildren played on. He rarely missed one of their games or track meets. Joe served on the Highland Park School Board for 22 years. He also served on the Potter Randall Appraisal District Board and the Canadian River Soil & Water Conservation District.
Mr. Swann was a member of Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church for many years, where he served in many leadership positions. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for the past several years. He was a devoted Christian who embodied the Fruits of the Spirit.
Mr. Swann was preceded in death by Lila, his wife of 68 years, and granddaughter Rebecca Cooper.
He is survived by daughter Lisa Parkhurst & husband Ronnie, of Weatherford, TX; son Jeff & wife Jill, of Amarillo; granddaughter Elizabeth Winks & husband Gary, of Borger; granddaughter Jana Potter & husband Cody, of Owasso, OK; grandson Jake & wife Hayley, of Garland; and great grandchildren Gavin Cooper, Mason Cooper, Hudson Potter, and Olivia Potter.
