

1917 to Betty Lee Story and James Weldon Story. After his father's death, Betty married Harry Rehner
who helped raise John.
John retired May 29, 1980 from Santa Fe Railway as a locomotive engineer in Plains Division at Amarillo,
Texas. John previously worked at State Hospitals in Ft Supply Oklahoma, Camarillo, CA, and Pueblo,
Colorado.
John loved traveling in his RV to most of the United States including a road trip to Alaska. He especially
enjoyed trips to the gulf coast and other parts of the country to metal detect, play dominoes, cribbage and
fish. He also liked to play the slots in Las Vegas and Laughlin, NV. John did not like to fly but he did
manage to fly to Hawaii to visit family. When he was not traveling, he enjoyed day trading stocks, going
to senior citizens to play dominoes and to socialize with his many friends. He loved family, hot coffee, meals with a side order of onions and sweets especially chocolate cookies. John was a member of Palo Duro Lodge No. 1239 for over 50 years. He was a member of South Georgia Baptist Church. John was married to Essie Lee Story for 50 years with whom he had three children. Later he married Billie Nell Collins who had three adult children.
John is preceded in death by his former wives Essie Story and Billie Story and a son Jay W. Story.
He is survived by his son Kenneth Story and his wife Dolores, and daughter Kaye Branigan and husband Galen, and Delores Story wife of Jay W Story all of Amarillo. He is also survived by step son Jeffery L. Hughes and wife Char of Hurst, Texas. He is also preceded in death by step daughter Valerie Pogue, step son Gregory Collins, and grandson Brian Branigan. He is also survived by his grandchildren Lorena Greer, Michael Story and wife Beth, Leslie Branigan and husband Kaleb Thomason, Stephen Branigan and wife Shiloh, Michele Peterson and husband Marvin, Camica Salicco and husband James, Jessie Story and 8 grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Thanks to Kindred Hospice staff for providing comfort and support to John and his family. And a huge
thank you to LeeAnn Mitchell and her son Danny for all the visits and company you gave John over
several years. John was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
