He was born on May 20, 1933, in Mason, Texas. For most of his life, Johnnie called Amarillo home, where he built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. From 1953 to 1955, Johnnie proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. His time in the service reflected the strength and dedication that would define the rest of his life. On September 20, 1959, he married the love of his life, Medra. Over the course of 66 years of marriage, they built a strong and loving partnership grounded in commitment and devotion. Together they created a home filled with warmth and steady guidance. Johnnie was a proud father to his two sons, Micheal and wife Michele; and David and wife Brandy. He was also a devoted grandfather to Matthew and his wife Erin, Mackenzie, Claire and husband Andrew, Sarah, and McKenna and husband Tyler. He was a cherished great-grandfather to Carter Lynn and Dean. His family was his greatest joy and proudest accomplishment. He worked for Gilvin – Terrill Ltd and then retired from the City of Amarillo as the Steet Assistant Superintendent, where he was respected for his strong work ethic, leadership, and integrity. Later he worked for Fuller & Sons Construction. Johnnie was a loving and sweet man who took care of his family without hesitation. He led by example, providing steady support and quiet wisdom throughout his life. Many will fondly remember him with a toothpick in his mouth, sitting on the porch in the warm Texas sun — content simply being near the people he cared about most.
Johnnie leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and unwavering devotion to his family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
