Josefa "Josie" Ellis

Josefa “Josie” Martinez Ellis, 76, of Amarillo passed into the glory of Heaven on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.
Visitation will be held at Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St on Friday, October 16, 2020 from 6pm to 8pm. Funeral services will be held First Family Church, 6101 Bell St on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 10am with Edgar Lopez presiding. Burial will follow in Llano Cemetery East.
Josie was born to Alfredo Martinez and Trinidad Cardona on March 19th, 1944 in Robstown, TX. She married John Ellis on May 12th, 1960 in Post, TX. They celebrated 60 blessed years this past May. Josie was blessed with eight children, JoAnn, Richard, Isabelle, Johnny Joe, John Jr., Edward, Donna, and Peggy Sue. Her children blessed her with 32 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 5 great –great grandchildren. Josie has three surviving sisters, Dominga Martinez, Carmen Martinez, and Irene Martinez, and two brothers Otilio and Juan Martinez and many nieces and nephews.
Josie was a born again Christian that loved the Lord, praising him daily singing gospel music. She loved her children and would do anything for them; they knew where home was. She enjoyed to crochet, to read, and decorate especially at Christmas time. Everyone was welcomed to enjoy the beautiful display of her large collection of Christmas villages.
Josie was loved by many and they never left without a smile on their face and a piece of her heart. The Ellis family thanks everyone who prayed, helped, reach out and participated in anyway in celebrating of mommy’s life.
She was preceded by her parents Alfredo and Trinidad Martinez, her sisters Elisa Flores, MaryAnn De La Rosa, brother Jose Angel Martinez, her son Johnny Joe Ellis, her granddaughter Destinie Hope Ellis, and her great-great granddaughter Jordynn.

My wonderful Aunt has left this world but her memory will live forever in my heart forever. As a child and adult she as I was very happy to see each other. To her children my cousins you are very blessed to have a beautiful person as your mother and I'm so sad for your loss, she has left us but will never leave our hearts. See you soon Tia I love you very much.
