Kim "Pops" Thompson, 89, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023. Funeral services are scheduled for 10am, Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Second Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Cummings officiating. The family will receive visitors for a viewing on Wednesday, June 28, from 6-8pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Amarillo.
Kim was born on October 15, 1933, in Hereford, Texas, to Charlie Thompson and Audrey Blagg. He grew up in Hereford and moved to Amarillo as a young man. He married Bonnie Thompson on August 3, 1991 and together they shared nearly 32 years of marriage. Kim loved watching old western shows. In his earlier years, he enjoyed woodworking and was able to create a Wahoo board for his wife. Kim was an avid lover of games, including Zilch and Wahoo. He also loved square dancing at Whirly Birds. His grandchildren humorously remember him as being a "stirrer," as he did not help much in the kitchen, but would always make sure and keep the meal stirred as his contribution. Kim was a funny man and loved to socialize with everybody. He truly loved helping people and was always known for being a hugger.
Kim was preceded in death by his parents, a baby sister, and five brothers.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Bonnie Thompson; brother, Verdell Thompson, of Bristol, Connecticut; sister, Lois Ward, of Amarillo, Texas; five grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and several nephews. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
