Lana Joyce Fristoe Crane gently passed holding her son's hand at 3am on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at the age of 77. Where her loving journey on earth ends, her spiritual journey begins In heaven with her heavenly Father.
Lana J. Fristoe Crane was born to Arthur C. Fristoe and Joyce B. Clemens Fristoe in Amarillo, Texas on June 15, 1944. She was one of six children. Lana was the little sister to a couple, and the big sister to a few brothers. When her and her big brother by a couple years Joe weren't flooding the kitchen to float on pots and pans, she was boxing her big brother Gene with some boxing gloves he had picked up from school. She was the fun loving goofy big sister to Phillip, David, and Shelly. Her and her mom Joyce would make tacos and teach Phillip and his friends how to jitterbug, while David and Shelly went on trips for ice cream begging to drive the car. Lana was always the fabric that wove the family together.
Lana attended Travis Jr High School as the first freshman class where she was a cheerleader on the inaugural squad. She was quite the cut up and class clown, always with a smile, usually a mischievous one. She graduated from Palo Duro High School class of 1962. Her friends Barbara and Melba were always cutting up, and having races out to the sand pits with their group of friends. Lana’s pep and outgoing personality paid off when she went to work for Max Cohen at Colbert’s downtown, where a dress suit and white gloves were required.
She worked for over 20 years as CCU/ICU Medical Unit Clerk at BSA and Northwest Texas Hospitals. She retired in 2005 from Northwest.
First and foremost Lana was a proud mom, diligent daughter, loving sister, devoted Aunt, and a good friend to all, she never met a stranger. Talking on the phone to her sister-in-law Karen was a daily routine that covered all the current hot topics. Her interests included a love of gardening and admiring gardens all over the U.S in all her travels. Lana loved a good political debate as a lifelong Blue Dog Democrat. She loved art and antiques, never missing a chance to DVR Antiques Roadshow. Ansel Adams was one of her favorite photographers, along with the artistry of Georgia O’Keeffe and Paulette Insall. She really developed a love of Jazz and Blues music. Her older brother Joe was a jazz musician. Wynton Marsalis and Billie were two great musical artists she admired along with the Neville Brothers. She also enjoyed Turner Classic Movies, her favorites were the Thin Man Collection, Bringing Up Baby, and To Kill a Mockingbird. Lana was the kinda mom pre-streaming services that made it clear to all they would be watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Charlie Brown, and every year without fail the Wizard of Oz. To this day the Wizard of Oz is a magical bond with her and her son Lance.
One of her son’s fondest memories of his mom was her being the Cub Scout den mother in Second grade, or their trips to Six Flags and Wet-n-Wild water park. Lana brightened every room she ever entered. Lana was also a deeply spiritual person, ending each passing day reading scripture with meditation and prayer. Her prayer list long and heartfelt. Her Christian Faith was the foundation of her gentle kind nature. She believed “Faith is the strength of the soul inside. Psalm 48:14. For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we comfort those troubled with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
Lana was preceded in death by her mother and father A.C. & Joyce Fristoe, her brothers Gene, Joe, and Phillip Fristoe, April Fristoe, Adam Fristoe, Meathead Fristoe (family pet), Spartacus & Squirrel Hooper (family pet).
