

Manuel “Manny” Hernandez, 94, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 15, 2026, surrounded by love. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to his family.
Manny lived a full and meaningful life defined by hard work, integrity, and generosity. Quiet in nature yet full of insight, he was known for his calm presence, thoughtful advice, and loving heart. Manny’s wisdom, humor, and steady strength brought comfort, laughter, and stability to all who knew him.
Born in White Deer, Texas, Manny was the son of Antonio and Antonia Hernandez. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, an experience that shaped his deep sense of duty and perseverance.
A giving man through and through, Manny touched countless lives simply by being himself. He especially enjoyed spending time with his “coffee crew” at McDonald’s on Ross and later at McDonald’s on Coulter, where friendships were shared over countless cups of coffee. Manny also had a lifelong love of cars and always appreciated a good one.
Manny was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Antonia Hernandez; his son, Michael Hernandez; two brothers, Tony and Arthur Hernandez; and his sisters, Lola Martinez, Judy Diaz, Jackie Barrientes, and Lucy Alonzo.
He is survived by his loving children: Julie Sustaita of Electra, Texas; Cynthia Rose of Houston; Manuel Hernandez Jr. and wife Laura of San Antonio; Guy Hernandez and wife Janice of Katy, Texas; Tonya Coronado and husband Joe of Lubbock, Texas; Serena De Los Santos and husband Armando of Amarillo; Paul Hernandez and wife Elisha of Plano, Texas; and Amber Tucker and husband Ryan of Amarillo.
He is also survived by twenty-six grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren, twelve great-great-grandchildren, along with many extended family members and dear friends.
Manny’s life was a testament to perseverance, love, and quiet strength. His stories, values, and lessons will continue to live on through the generations he helped shape. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St., with Pastor Manny De Los Santos officiating.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered prayers, support, and condolences during this difficult time.
