Marla Jeannine Gadry, age 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 24, 2021.She was born August 10, 1937 in Clovis, NM to Mansel and Maxine Johnston. She married Richard David Gadry on February 13, 1959. They have Three children, Christa Young and David Gadry and an adopted daughter Siri Le. Marla was raised in Broadview, NM and graduated from Grady High School. She received bachelors and masters degrees in education from Eastern New Mexico University.
In teaching, she found her true gift and passion. Nothing says this more than the epitaph she chose for her tombstone, “to teach is to touch a life forever”. In her over 40 years in teaching, she taught students in various elementary grade levels in Massachusetts, New Mexico and Texas. Her final years teaching were spent teaching children, new to this country, in the English as a Second Language (ESL) programs. During this time, she was recognized as the “Teacher of the Year for Elementary” in the Amarillo Independent School District.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Richard and is survived by her daughter, Christa Young and husband David, son; David Gadry and wife Kristy, and adopted daughter Siri Le and husband Hung and, grandchildren, Amy and Anna Young, Bryn and Lara Gadry, Irissa and Itthan Le, three great grandchildren, three sisters; Linda Martin and husband David, Kenda Delaney and husband Larry, Stacey Bizzell and husband Bill, six nieces and nephews and six great nieces and nephews.
