Mary was born May 18th, 1950, to parents Isidro and Mary Romero of Amarillo, Texas. Mary was born a sassy sweetheart with a tender smile and a caring heart. Small, but mighty, she held her faith, her family, and her community in the highest regard. Mary knew no stranger, but exemplified hospitality in every walk of life. Professionally, Mary spent most of her career serving as a custodial coordinator for Amarillo ISD. She cherished her coworkers as family and never passed up an opportunity to serve her colleagues with willingness to assist in their work, take on new challenges, and build meaningful relationships with everyone she encountered in the workplace – colleagues and guests alike.
Mary’s family was the joy of her life. The love of her life was her husband Phillip Griego, who preceded her in death on May 22nd, 2017. Mary and Phillip's marriage was an admirable example of loving commitment, steadfastness in times of joy and sorrow, and stewardship which benefited all who had the joy of witnessing their covenantal love. One of their greatest joys was raising their children, all of whom blessed them further with grandchildren along with several great-grandchildren, whom Mary cherished altogether dearly. She never passed up an opportunity to bless her family with spontaneous conversations, get togethers, financial blessings, and providing a delicious meal to anyone who entered her home. Above all, Mary’s hope and joy was found in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a faithful believer in the one true Gospel and carried out her life in a manner that sought to share the love she had received to all whom she encountered. She led a life of generosity and service, seeking to give others a glimpse into the joy, love, security, and provision she had found in her Savior, with whom she now resides. She stood steadfast in her faith throughout all her adult life, prioritizing attending and volunteering at local churches, and approaching every situation with prayer and gratitude.
