MARY NELL SMITH

Mary Nell Smith, age 91, died peacefully at home on August 23, 2020 in Amarillo, Texas. Mary was born November 4, 1928 to Ralph and Ruby Lee Butler near Cisco, Texas.
She married Kilburn (Kib) Smith on June 4, 1955. They lived in California for most of their 52 years of married life. She worked as a switchboard operator for Montgomery Wards. She and Kilburn enjoyed bowling with friends, working in the yard and taking walks together. They often spent time with their nieces and nephews. They were baptized in the Fresno Christian Life Assembly in 2000.
Mary loved to crochet and donated many of her afghans to the homeless in Amarillo. She also crafted a vintage Mr & Mrs Santa made from Reader’s Digest magazines and doll heads to give as gifts to family and friends. She learned to line dance in her 80’s with the Amarillo Senior Citizens after moving to Amarillo in 2007 and enjoyed lunches and visits with a precious group of friends who belonged to the Texas 2-Steppers Stamp Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, one brother and great-granddaughter/pen pal, Courtney Canfield. Survivors include her son Ben Honea & his wife Marilyn; her daughter Sherry Canfield; four grandsons, Randall Honea & his wife Tracy Dee, Tracy L Honea & his wife Tiffany, Micheal Canfield & his wife Jennifer, Joey Canfield and Skyler Canfield; one granddaughter Rhea Bell & her husband Chad; 12 great-grandchildren and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Private graveside services and burial will be held on Tuesday, September 1 at Clovis Cemetery, Clovis, California. In lieu of flowers, she requested donations be mad to the Alzheimer’s Association.
