Mr. Orris Edson “Ed” Jones 88 of Amarillo passed away December 17, 2015. Mr. Jones was born to William Earl Jones and Aletha Louise Snelling on April 16, 1927 in Wapanucka, Okla. He grew up in Holdenville, Okla. with eight brothers and sisters; Jacqueline, Bill, Gene, Paul, Bob, Pat, Kay, and Judy. He graduated from Holdenville High School in 1943 at the age of 14. He worked for the railroad 1944-1945. He served in the US Army during WWII, receiving the Army of Occupation Medal and WWII Victory Medal, with honorable discharge in 1947. Mr. Jones moved to Amarillo in 1947. He married Ida Mae “June” Jones in 1953. He became a member of Second Baptist Church in 1955. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1988 after 41 years of service.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Ida Mae “June” Jones on April 13, 2004, and his son Bobby Joe Jones on April 12, 2005.
Survivors include two grandchildren, Troy Allen St. Tours of Austin, and Natalie Suzanne St. Tours of Gig Harbor, WA; five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Isaac, Lauren, Emily, and Matthew; and one great-great-grandson, Connor; and siblings, Bob, Pat, and Kay.
