

Visitation will be held at Griggs-Schooler-Gordon, Pioneer Chapel, 5400 Bell St., Amarillo, TX 79109, on March 9, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at South Georgia Baptist, 5209 S. Georgia St., Amarillo, TX 79110, on March 10, 2026, at 10:00 am. Burial will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery, 2648 NE Jake Dunn Rd, Elgin, OK 73538, at a later date.
Born September 19, 1934, in Leelanau County, Michigan, she was the daughter of James William (Bill) and Gladys Angeline (Lemcool) Hill. On June 14, 1953, she married her beloved husband of over 72 years, Pete Tompkins, of Traverse City, who survives. She graduated from Traverse City Central High School in June 1952 and started her professional career as a secretary.
In December 1953 she moved to Biloxi, Mississippi, with Pete who had enlisted in the United States air force in August 1953. Over the next 21 years, Pete had various duty stations both in the United States, Alaska (when it became a state), and Japan. She started her Civil Service Career, which lasted for 31 years, at Yokota Air Base, Japan, in 1962. Prior to her retirement on June 1, 1994, she was the Secretary for the Air Base Wing Commander at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Following retirement Pete and Pat spent their summers traveling with their RV to visit family members and friends across the country enjoying the scenery and historical memorials in all 48 states.
Along with her husband, Pete, she is survived by a daughter-in-law Barbara Tompkins of Bangor, Pennsylvania, and her children Cory, Tyler, and Jonathan, and Son David (Sherri) Tompkins of Abilene and their children Ashlyn and Bay Tompkins and Will and Andrew Clowe. She is also survived by her niece Mary Ann Galic, plus 11 Great Grandchildren.
Pat Tompkins was preceded in death by her father, James W. Hill, who died in 2001, her mother, Gladys Hill, in 2007, her sister, Ida Tompkins, in 2019, and her son John Tompkins in 2024.
