Phyllis Banes, 85, of Amarillo, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 27th, 2025. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, from 5-7 pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 10 am at Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial to follow.
Phyllis was born on January 22nd, 1940, to Mr. and Mrs. Bartosiewicz. Phyllis grew up in Nashua, New Hampshire and resided there most of her young life. Phyllis later moved to Amarillo, TX where she met Thomas Lee Banes. They later married on August 5th, 1976.
She had two children, Donna Potter and Daniel Bedwell from a previous marriage. She gained two more children when she married Tommy – Tammy Banes and Steve Banes.
Phyllis worked in secretarial services for several lawyers before landing her career job with the State of Texas. She was assigned to Adult Protective Services. She worked for the State for 25 years until her retirement in 2005.
Phyllis enjoyed being outdoors tending to her tomato plants and caring for her flowers. She also enjoyed cooking. She always looked forward to spring and summer, so she could plan family gatherings, picnics in the backyard, and even get-togethers to the farmers market to pick out the best cantaloupes. She was a special soul. She wore a crown of faithfulness and a woman of readiness to look for Jesus. Phyllis was a member of Polk Street Methodist Church where she enjoyed volunteering.
She loved going to horse races in Ruidoso and Oklahoma City. She loved taking the grandkids to a “staycation” to swim and enjoyed spending time with them. She loved Charlie Brown.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Eddie and Tony, and her two children Donna and Daniel.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years Tommy Banes; 2 stepchildren, Tammy Banes and Steve Banes and wife Denise; grandchildren Carl Westmoreland, Jr, Detric Westmoreland, Braydon Banes and Ashton Banes. Great-grandchildren Jayden and Brooklyn; nieces Sandy Byram and husband Tom, Becky Haney and husband Edward, and Deborah Holcomb and husband Bob; nephew Jim Banes, Robert Banes, Jennifer Banes and her husband; and many great-nieces and nephews.
