Roy Dale Messenger was born July 29, 1937 in Hereford Texas and attended school in Friona. He died in an Amarillo hospital on October 15, 2024, surrounded by two of his beloved nephews, Jay Messenger and Tom Noggler. He was born and reared in the Baptist church and was a devout Christian all of his life. He practiced his Christian values in the retirement village where he lived for more than 30 years by preparing and leading bible studies, composing a community newsletter and delivering meals to those not able to get out.
He was married to Christine Mick in 1975 and they lived in Canyon and Abilene.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine; his Daddy, George C. and Momma, Beulah Messenger; four brothers, Steve, Loyd, Floyd and Ralph, and two sisters, Elsie and Nancy.
He is survived by sister, Rosalie Carter; brother, John N. Messenger; son, Terry Mick and wife, Sheila; grandson, Chris Mick; one great-grandson, two great-granddaughters, a great-great granddaughter and 19 nieces and nephews.
Viewing for family and friends will be on Monday, October 21, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, located at 5400 Bell Street in Amarillo. Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at 10:00 am at the Second Baptist Church located at 419 North Buchanan in Amarillo.
Private interment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
