Roy O. Shedenhelm, 90, of Amarillo passed away on Saturday, March 02, 2019.

The family will receive guests on Thursday, March 07, 2019 from 6pm to 8 pm in the Memorial Park Funeral Home; 6969 E. Interstate 40 in Amarillo. Funeral Services will be held in the funeral home’s Chapel of Memories on Friday, March 08, 2019 at 2pm. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Roy was born on April 01, 1928 in Flint, Michigan to Glen and Florence(Nielson) Shedenhelm. He graduated from High School in Hale, Michigan, and would soon after join the United States Army. He served in the Artillery Division during the Korean Conflict based in Germany. He married Betty Lou Brandon in March of 1951 prior to being deployed to Germany. Together they shared 61 and a half years of marriage, until Betty Lou's passing in 2012. He retired from the U.S. Forestry Service in Michigan after 30 years. In 1983, he and Betty would relocate to the Amarillo, Texas where he would work for the Garvey Grain Elevator for 10 years. He was an avid follower of Nascar. He enjoyed going to casinos and playing online slots. His many favorite pass times included watching westerns and going to The Big Texan, but those failed in comparison to his true favorite pass time of spending time with his children, grandchildren, and many friends. He never met a stranger and loved to have a good conversation.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ralph, Glen Jr., and Lester; wife Betty Lou, daughter Veronica Walker, and special friend Betty Helton.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sisters Cleo Keif and Clara Mae Ranger, daughter Cindee Shedenhelm, son Max Shedenhelm and wife Trina, son in law Steve Walker; grandchildren Allan Walker, Brandon and BobbieJo Walker, Ashlee and Eric Jenkins, Max Brett Shedenhelm and Jenifer Davis, and Tiffany and Paul Christopher. He was blessed to also leave a legacy of great-grandchildren, Brayden and Andiejo Walker, Elizabeth Jenkins and a great-granddaughter due to make her arrival in July of 2019; and not to be left out were his special family, Byron, Tonja, and Tori Helton and Jacob Hall; The Big Texan Management and Staff, and The DaVita Group on South Coulter.

The Family would like to give a special thanks to BSA ICU and BSA Hospice of the Southwest, Chandler Clinic, Dr. Houseal, and Dr. DeSai for the wonderful care provided to their father during his time of need.

Roy was like the Energizer Bunny- he just kept going! Our family was blessed to know Betty Lou and Roy and their children. They were a wonderful Christian family. All praise to Cindee who cared for Roy with her loving heart !

Enjoyed our great conversations we had (will miss them) No one could have had a better brother then Roy, he had such a great outlook on life. He lifted me up so many times. His family was his life. He was so proud of all of them.
