Ruby Mae Evans, 83, of Amarillo, Texas, passed from this world on October 30, 2025. She was born February 16, 1942, in Grand Prairie, Texas, to Russell and Lucille Grissom. Ruby was a natural-born mother and nurturer. As the second of seven children and the oldest daughter, she lovingly helped her mother raise her younger brothers and sisters. She was known for her kind and gentle spirit, her deep love for others, and her unwavering dedication to her family. On November 6, 1958, Ruby married the love of her life, Edward (Ed) “Sonny” Evans. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised four children. They remained devoted to one another until Edward’s passing on October 20, 2019. Ruby’s greatest pride and joy was her family, and everything she did centered around their wellbeing. She cherished family gatherings—especially cookouts, camping trips, and NASCAR adventures. Ruby enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting, working on her computer, and had a fondness for fast cars. Her most treasured moments were the times her grandchildren spent the night at Grandma and Grandpa’s house.
Ruby is survived by her sons, James Evans of Amarillo and Rodney Evans of Amarillo; daughter, Marie Kachiros and husband Pete of Amarillo; daughter-in-law, Sylvia Alonso-Evans; sisters, Karen Grissom and Sharon Turner; grandchildren, Nick, Carolyn, Amber, Rory, Amy, Drew, Chris, Britton, and McKenzie; and great-grandchildren, Kate, Nehemiah, Lillie, Alex, and Zakariah.
