Sara was born on September 23, 1936 to William and Ruth Nelson in Amarillo Texas. She graduated high school from Amarillo high where she met her future husband Buddy Bonjour. Sara and Buddy were married on September 24, 1954.
Sara was a woman who enjoyed many things in life. She loved being in the mountains, listening to the birds talk and sing, and being around her family.
She enjoyed gardening and planting her own vegetables that would later become her famous fried okra, squash, and green tomatoes. It wasn’t just her vegetables that she could cook, she made the meanest enchiladas Amarillo has seen and no one could pass up the opportunity to enjoy her chicken fried steak, gravy, and homemade french fries.
She loved her dogs and cats, playing bingo, going on adventures with the Amarillo antique car club, painting anything and everything, and spending time with her best friend Vickie. But most of all she loved her family more than anything in this world! Sara was strong in her faith, always attending church when her body would let her. Above all else, Sara had a presence that made everyone fall in love with her. She will truly be missed by all who came to know her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy Bonjour, and her parents, Ruth and William Nelson. Left on this earth to carry on her legacy are her sons, Russell of Amarillo, Darrell and wife GayLynn of Amarillo, Monty and wife Misty of Amarillo, daughter Jackye and husband Perry of Amarillo, brother George Nelson of Amarillo, sister-in-law Sheree Cannon of Floydada, Texas, nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
