Todd Osenbaugh was born Aug. 10, 1945, in Gainesville to Virginia and Floyd “Dutch” Osenbaugh. He was an industrious young man. Todd started sweeping stores and delivering papers at a very young age. He was tall for his age and lied to potential employers about his age so he could support himself early on in life. He was also a bit of a rebel so he quit high school with only three months ’til graduation because of the bureaucracy.
Todd then received permission from his mother to enlist in the Navy at the tender age of 17. In the Navy, he worked in the boiler room on the naval ship Ashtabula off the Vietnam coast. In the boiler room he watched the beautiful white flakes flutter to the floor as the guns blazed. Little did Todd know this would change his life forever as the flakes were asbestos. This resulted in a double lung transplant for Todd in April 1996. He was expected to live three to five years, but once again, surprised everybody and lived 17 and a half full years.
He was employed by Owens Corning for 12 years as a machinist. His passion was music, and Todd enjoyed playing the bass guitar. He played bass with Andy Chase and was the opening act for Chicago in Amarillo; they liked them so much they asked them to open in Lubbock also. Todd was very proud of this.
Todd loved his babies, Mister, Pattie, Lou, Hombre and Twooie, but most of all he loved his daughter, Erin Rae Osenbaugh. He filled the role of father for Jennifer Vanessa Martin and Charles Antorry Martin. Todd’s heart was filled with love, and he gave willingly to many. He found his soul mate in his wife, Vickie Clay Osenbaugh. They had been married 18 years.
Survivors include his wife, Vickie; a daughter, Erin Osenbaugh; two grandchildren, Charles Jayden Martin and Jayla Amber Martin; a cousin-in-law, Janie Henderson; two nieces, Virginia Kraochvil and Jill Whitiker; a sister-in-law, Loretta Osenbaugh; and last but not least, his brother, Ted Osenbaugh.
