

Verna Phillips, 77 of Amarillo passed away March 16, 2014. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Memorial Park Funeral Home, Pastors Mark Phillips and Kyle Black officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 I-40 East. Verna was born January 14, 1937 in Oklahoma to Robert and Willie M. Steed. She was raised in Childress and graduated from Childress High School. Verna married Donald Phillips on February 26, 1956 in Childress. The couple soon moved to Amarillo where they owned and operated Phillips Business Services until 1987. Donald passed away on March 30, 1987. Verna then worked for Potter County Adult Probation Services up until her retirement. She was a huge NASCAR fan and her favorite driver by far was the number 24 car of Jeff Gordon. Verna was also a huge fan of Neil Diamond. She lived one of her dreams once when her daughters and her daughter-in-law drove to Oklahoma City and saw Neil Diamond live in concert. Verna was a great mother and was very active in her children’s activities, she was a big supporter of the Caprock Band. Verna was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend and she will be forever missed. Verna was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Phillips. Verna is survived by her son, Mark Phillips and wife Debbie of Amarillo; daughters, Jan Teague and husband Alan and Kristi Hofmann and husband Marc both of Amarillo; brother, Ray Steed and wife Shirley of Bath, Pennsylvania; brothers-in-law, Mike Phillips and wife Betty and Daryl Phillips and wife Leay; grandchildren, Amy Medrano, Tina Brohlin and husband Toby, Scott Teague, Donnie Teague and wife Yolanda, Holly Mason and husband Bobby, Ashleigh Carney and husband Tanner, Kelsey Bowers, Madison Bowers and Ava Bowers; great-grandchildren, Vanessa, Christian and Mario Medrano, Keegan Barnett, Ryan Barnett, Lennon Brohlin, Kianna Mason, Brayden Carney and Brody Carney. The family suggest memorials be sent to Buchanan St. United Methodist Church, 617 N. Buchanan Amarillo, Texas 79107. The family wishes to extend thanks to Dr. Sergio Muniz and Interim Hospice, especially her primary caregivers Amy and Princess. She loved you all.
