

Rosary will be said at 6 p.m. today at Memorial Park Funeral Home with Deacon John Peters officiating. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary’s Catholic Cathedral with Father Scott Raef as celebrant. Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40.
Virginia Rivera was born Sept. 15, 1933, in Lockhart. She went to her eternal rest on Friday, June 10, 2016. Virginia Perez married Joe Rivera on Aug. 5, 1955, in Lubbock. They celebrated their 60th anniversary last year. Virginia was a loving mother, sister, wife and friend. She was extremely selfless and charitable, never turning away someone in need. She taught several cake decorating courses at Amarillo College for continuing education. Going to bingo with her sister and daughter was her favorite pastime. She was lovingly referred to as “Grandma Bingo” by her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Rivera; a sister, Eva Parks; a daughter, Debra Rivera; four sons Ray Hurtado and wife Dani of Fort Worth, and Michael Rivera and wife Yvonne, Gabrial Rivera and wife Melissa and Raphael Rivera, all of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Daniel Hurtado, Raquel Dominguez and husband Ruben, Matthew Rivera and Oneka, Anthony Rivera and Kathryn Hurtado; and four great-grandchildren, Jezlynne, Madison and Sebastian Dominguez and Mason Rivera.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to St. Mary’s Catholic Cathedral.
