Wayne “Dub” Yowel Barnett Wayne “Dub” Yowel Barnett, 88, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with Brother Glen Walton officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in Fort Towson Cemetery, Fort Towson, Okla., Thursday. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Directors, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Wayne was born Aug.1, 1925, in Crum to the late Mrytle Lee Elige Blackshear and Elmer Dewitt Barnett. Wayne served in the Navy as an aviation machinist’s mate third class from Oct. 20,1943 to April 23,1946. He served in Pensacola, Fla. and the South Pacific. Shortly after his service in the Navy, he worked at Pantex as a supervisor for utilities for 32 years and as an engineering consultant for Swanson & Rink for two years. He was a kind, loving, understanding and generous man. He would literally give the shirt off of his back to provide assistance to any man, family and stranger alike. His generosity and moral fortitude will forever be remembered and cherished by the multitude of people who he touched during his lifetime. We love you greatly and will miss you dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sharon Jean Barnett; two brothers, Jack Elmer Dewitt Barnett, Robert Harold Barnett; four stepbrothers, Horace Blackshear, R.L. Blackshear, A.W. Blackshear, E.C. Junior Blackshear and two stepsisters Ina Bell Manor and Trummie Lee Pennington. Survivors include his wife of 66 years , Mary Jo Smith Barnett; two daughters; Jo Ann Cannon and husband Gene of Panhandle, and Marilyn Sue Atchley and husband Brian of Forsyth, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Quentin Cannon and wife Karen of Wichita, Kan., Aimee Timmons and husband Mike of Pampa, Dr. Jonathan W. Barnett and wife Angie of Richmond Va., Deandra Smith of Forsyth, Dea Johnson and husband Tech Sgt Nicolas of Albuquerque N.M., Kyle McLain and Lesley Latham of Forsyth, Brittany Huffman and husband Tyler of Maumee, Ohio, David McLain of Branson, Mo., and Moriah McLain of Forsyth; four brothers; Royce Blackshear and wife Pat of Dumas, Perry Blackshear and wife Wanda of Cleo Springs, Maurice Barnett, and Anthony Barnett; three sisters, Dorothy Sipes of Yukon, Okla., Farris Rowell and husband Darrell and Peggy Ferguson and husband Tom, all of Dumas, and Billie Payne; 16 great-grandchildren, Jordan and Paige Cannon, Legend, Taylor, and Hunter Davis, Echo Barnett, Ariana and Isabella DeFranco, Samuel Barnett, Orion and Zachary Smith, Briahna, Isaak, and Gavin Johnson, Kyley McLain, and Amaryllis Huffman; 10 sisters and brothers-in-law; Billye Faye Smith, Gladys Hester, Jimmy Harper, Midge Smith, Bobby and Ruby Smith, Delores Collins, Lonnie and Susan Smith and Nadean Barnett. The family is eternally grateful for the wonderful staff and volunteers of the VA Community Living Center who cared for Wayne. The care and love given to Wayne was greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be given to the Thomas E. Creek VA Community Living Center or CLC Family Center.
