A visitation will be held at South Lawn Baptist Church, located at 4306 S. Washington St., Amarillo, TX 79110, on December 26, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will follow on the same day from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The burial will take place at 3:00 pm at Memorial Park Cemetery. Al was born in Mt. View, Oklahoma to William and Lillie Hampton on March 29, 1928. Al proudly served his country, joining United States Army in October of 1950. He married the love of his life, Idella Ethel Neuwirth, on January, 19, 1951. During his military service, he was stationed in Germany and honorably completed active duty in October 1952, after which he continued serving in the Army Reserves for five years. Following his military service, Al worked in aircraft plants in Kansas, Alabama, and Oklahoma, contributing his skills and strong work ethic wherever he went. In January of 1959, he moved to Amarillo, Texas where he began a long and dedicated career at Pantex for 35 years as a metrology technician. Al enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially camping, fishing, and even raised Quarter Horses for 5 years. He spent a lot of time watching sports such as baseball, football, and wrestling. In his older days he found joy in reading and doing crossword puzzles. Above all else, Al was a man of deep faith and an active member of South Lawn Baptist Church. He lived his life as a devoted Christian, guided by his belief in God, which shaped the way he loved his family and others. Al is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters, and a grandson Jeremy Hampton
Al is survived by his beloved wife Idella Hampton; son Michael Hampton and wife Carla of Bella Vista, son David Hampton and wife Tami of Amarillo, daughter Debbie Burleson and husband Michael of Amarillo, daughter Lisa Snow and husband Tom of Amarillo; and Mindy Bradley who is a cherished part of the family.
He leaves behind a large and loving family including grandchildren: Shawn Burleson, Amy Sanchez, Julie Hampton-Flores, Bryan Hampton, Jared Hampton, Justin Hampton, Autumn Hampton, Lindsey Wimer, Logan Snow, Tyler Snow; 11 Great-Grandchildren; 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren; and many others who loved him dearly.
William Alfred Hampton’s legacy of faith, love, and integrity will continue through many generations he leaves behind.
