Charles Ray Browning
March 14, 1927 to September 7, 2013
Charles Ray Browning (“Chuck”), 86, of Orange, California, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on September 7, 2013. He was born March 14, 1927 in Elkins, West Virginia, to Moss and Evelyn Browning. He met his beautiful bride, Barbara, on a blind date while in college. They eloped three months later, beginning a 64-year legacy of a wonderful life together, with Christ and family at the center of all he did.
The legacy continues through his wife Barbara; his two daughters: Sandra Emilio (husband Daniel) and Debi Cooke (husband Bruce); 7 grandchildren: Joel (Flora), Jonathan (Allison), Justin (Denise), Melissa, Jarod (April), Sean, and Jamison; 8 great-grandchildren: Jakob, Everett, Genevieve, Evelyn, Katelyn, Elizabeth, Brayden and Noah; two nephews and their families: Danny (wife Debbie) and David (wife Jennifer) Godby of West Virginia as well as many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Charles served as an Army Tech Sergeant in Wiesbaden, Germany, and took part in the Nuremburg War Trials. He received his Bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University in 1951 and his Master’s degree from Drexel University in 1961. He worked as an electrical engineer for Ford Aerospace until retiring after 25 years of service.
He loved the Lord and was actively involved in church serving as President of American Baptist Men, on the National Board of Ministries, President of American Baptist Regional Board, and Comptroller for Children’s Baptist Home.
Charles was best known for his smile, teasing winks, tickles, tenor voice, love of cards/games/sports and was most often seen whistling tunes, organizing a baseball game with his grandchildren or offering a hand to those less fortunate.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the many angels at Seasons Hospice for their loving care and support and the numerous ways they ministered to so many of us in the family over these past 10 months.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2013, 3:00 p.m. at Beachpoint Church, 17415 Magnolia Street, Fountain Valley, CA. Memorial donations may be made to Seasons Hospice Foundation, 6400 Shafer Court, Suite 700, Rosemont, IL, 60018 or online at http://www.seasonsfoundation.org/page.aspx?pid=366.
