one of my favorite teachers I owe a lot to him
September 26, 2014
After graduating from Loara High School in 1986, Mr. Abney was one of a very few of my teachers I found myself reminiscing about. Having learned both drafting and electronics from him for 3 years, it was a bitter sweet experience helping him close down both classes when he retired. I can't quite describe the sorrow of learning of his passing so recently, knowing that in this age of connectivity that I missed the chance to share how his teachings have inspired an interest in both subjects in my son.
He was a vibrant teacher whose warmth and character were a refreshing break from the three R's. It was obvious to all of us that he cared about his students and his legacy. How sorely his absence will be felt.
For all the times you made me laugh when sparks flew unexpectedly, your pearls of wisdom that kept me from electrocuting myself, that warm Southern drawl that made hard subjects seem like a day at the park, and the lessons about life you threw in the mix, thank you Mr. Abney! You will NOT be forgotten! R. Wiech Loara Class of 1986.

My heartfelt condolences to the Abney family. I remember Mr Abney very well from the semester I had him for my electrical class. He really was one of the nicest instructors i ever had. We need more teachers like Mr Abney. I would also like to honor his military service. Thank you Mr Abney. I salute you.
