Jesus P. Lapid Jr.

October 7, 1968 - March 4, 2015

Jesus Lapid, 46 years old, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, after a long courageous battle with recurring brain tumors and lesions, and chronic nerve pain. He is survived by his wife Catherine Anne Lapid, his son Jesse John Lapid, and his mother Ramona Vargas Lapid. Jesus was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, uncle, Godfather and friend.

Jesus was born on October 7, 1968 in Manila, Philippines. He was one of seven children: Ramon Lapid, Maria Rosaria Lapid, Maria Jesusa Roman, Angelito Lapid, Ramona Lapid, and Catherine Holloman. Jesus was the fourth child, named after his father, Jesus Zapanta Lapid. In 1985 after graduating from St. Vincent's High School Seminary in Quezon City, he immigrated to the United States. He obtained his B.A. in Psychology from San Diego State University, and later attended Mount St. Mary's College to obtain a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology.

Jesus was a caring and generous person who enjoyed helping others. He worked as an instructional assistant for disabled students at the VIP Village in South Bay Union School District. He participated in many ministries at St. Jerome's Church. He had a strong faith in our Lord and devotion to the Blessed Mother Mary. In 1994, Jesus entered St. John's Seminary as a novitiate of the St. Vincent de Paul religious order. However, in 1997 he left the seminary after having met Catherine. Jesus and Catherine were married on August 27, 2000.

Jesus worked as a kindergarten teacher at St. Lucy's School in Long Beach until he could no longer work due to his disability. Jesus proudly participated with his son Jesse in Cub Scout Pack 660 at St. Irenaeus Church, Boy Scout Troop 671 at St. Hedwig Church, and all of Jesse's sports and school activities. Each day Jesus expressed his love for his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew him and loved him.
