Jose Capistrano Cariaga, Jr., born in Nagcarlan, Laguna, Philippines on January 11, 1927, served the community of Guam as one of its most devoted physicians for 37 years. His skill as a physician contributed much to the health and welfare of the people of Guam.
Dr. Cariaga was a 1952 graduate at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) College of Medicine. He arrived in Guam in 1965 and started a long career serving the local community as a beloved internist and family practitioner. He worked at the Guam Memorial Hospital for six years before joining the Catholic Medical Center (CMC). After two years, CMC was rebranded as the Family Health Plan, and Dr. Cariaga continued working with them over the next 21 years until his retirement. Not quite ready to live a life of leisure, he eventually returned to treating patients and worked at Public Health and Social Services for another eight years.
He was a member of Circulo Pampangueno and Laguna Association of Guam, and served as an adviser for the UST Alumni Organization of Guam.
