Loyal Wayne Roper was born on November 8, 1930 in Springville Utah, a railroad town. His father was Philip Leo Roper who was born in Thistle, Utah and his mother was Olive Stagg Smith. When Wayne was a young boy, he moved to Los Angeles. His mother died when he was 25 years old. Wayne later joined the Marine Corp. and fought in the Korean War. He met the love of his life, Mary Jane, at his brother’s wedding. Since they fell in love Mary and Wayne Roper have been sweethearts for 57 years. They had three children, Susan, Nancy and Steven, seventeen grandkids, and 29 great grandkids. In 1966 he began working at Disneyland on the day after Christmas. He held many jobs but his favorite was the under water scuba diver for the submarine ride. He made many friends there including Mickey Mouse. He retired 31 years later and received a Disney park bench for life to remind him of the many friends he made while at work. Anyone he met took a liking to him because they knew that his actions spoke louder than his words. Wayne loved to sing and do missionary work. Anything that he could do to help others he would. He served several missions and was a very dedicated member of the L.D.S. church. He passed on his family values to his children. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knows him, especially his family.
