Allan “Al” Juel Hansen, 66, was born on June 12, 1952, to Stanley and Amanda (Juel) Hansen in Carroll, Iowa. He passed away January 31, 2019. Visitation will be at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, from 5-7:00 p.m. The funeral will be at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. with a luncheon following services at the church.

Al graduated from Exira High School in 1970. After graduation he went to DMACC in Ankeny and received his welding certification. On August 26, 1972, Al married his high school sweetheart Kathy (Bintner) in Exira, IA and three children were born from this union. Al retired from John Deere in 2006 after 30 years of service and then moved onto his post retirement career as a school crossing guard, where he touched the lives of so many children.

Al loved people and would talk to everyone; no one was a stranger to him. He always had a story to tell to anyone who would listen. He loved the Iowa State Cyclones, tailgating, grilling and making his famous beef jerky. His biggest love was his six grandkids; teaching them jokes, making "papa juice", giving thumb kisses, playing taxi driver to and from school and watching them in school activities and sports.

Al is survived by his wife, Kathy of 46 years; his children: Greg (Brigette); Amy (Jimmy) Martin, Todd (Rachel); grandchildren, Sam, Ben, Addilyn, Kyler, Aubree and Lane; sisters Gladys (Jack) Gray, Marilyn (Dennis) Roof; brother, Robert (Judi); sister-in-law, Carol Lenning; mother-in-law, Avis Bintner; and many brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Emmert Hansen; and father-in-law, Willie Bintner.

I’m so sad. Uncle Al had one of those larger than life personalities. He drew people in. And although I didn’t see him often I really enjoyed the time I was with him. He made me laugh. Always. Hugs to you all.

We are saddened to hear of your Dad’s passing and send all our love and prayers. Such a wonderful man and we were blessed to have met him. The girls always will remember him as their favorite cross guard and shared how they looked forward to doing their Friday chicken dance crossing, a tradition your dad started.

Janet Bohlen Westendorf I loved waiting on your parents in all the years they came to Benchwarmers. Always friendly and nice. The best people ever. How fortunate you are to have them as parents. I’m so sorry for your loss.

As I have tears running down my face writing this I am thinking about all of the wonderful things about your Dad. He LOVED your mom fiercely and showed his affection for her to everyone. He was SO SO SO proud of you kids and did an amazing job raising you to be incredible parents yourself. And all of his grandchildren- he lives for them and you could see that through his smile and the stories he would tell whenever I would see him. The childhood memories I have are my absolute favorite- wipers!

Al was a special man and I have so many great memories as neighbors with your mom and him. One that always sticks with me is the snowball fight we had not only outside but inside also! He will be truly missed by all.
