On Monday, August 9th, 2021, Archie James Eekhoff, loving son, brother, uncle, cousin, and neighbor died at Unity Point Hospital in Des Moines, IA at the age of 38. A visitation will be held at Ankeny Funeral Home on Friday, August 13th, from 4 to 7:00 P.M. A funeral service will be held at Ankeny First United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 14th, at 10:00 A.M. There will be no graveside service at this time. Archie will be interred next to his father and brother at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, IA.
Archie was born on October 14th, 1982 in Sheldon, IA, and the first child of Mike and Kristen Eekhoff. He grew up in the Sheldon area, attending Sheldon Christian Grade School, Western Christian High School, and graduating from Sheldon High School. His family moved to Ankeny, IA in 2001. He attended DMACC and received an Associate of Arts Degree and was currently attending Grand View University with a major in Spanish.
On July 18th, 2004, he became a quadriplegic. He continued to live with his mother in Ankeny who cared for him in their home. Archie’s passions were music, sports, and his relationship with his brother, Michael. Highlights in his life included weekly visits from Uncle Ron and Aunt Joanell. He looked forward to and appreciated an occasional week at Grandma Eekhoff’s in Kanawha.
Those left to cherish is memory are his mother, Kristen; brother, Michael (Erin Savery) Eekhoff; nieces and nephews, Braelyn, Nolan, and Paxton; grandmother, Viola Eekhoff; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Archie was preceded in death by his dad, Mike; brother, Tommy John; grandfather, John Eekhoff; and grandparents, Harold and Joanne Heemstra.
Archie’s family would like to thank the community of Ankeny, neighbors on NW Greenwood St., and others who supported Archie with acts of kindness and encouraging words over the years. Also thanks to Unity Point at Home for their care and support given to Archie. Archie’s family and friends rejoice in knowing that he is once again able bodied and is celebrating in heaven with loved ones.
