OBITUARY
Arnold "Arnie" Jerome Sunde
April 20, 1940 – January 21, 2021
Arnold “Arnie” Jerome Sunde, 80, of Ankeny passed away at Taylor House Hospice on Thursday, January 21, 2021. He was born on April 20, 1940 to Oscar and Myrtle (Paulson) Sunde in Estherville, Iowa. Arnold attended Gruver high school. After graduating, he went to work with his friends on a ranch in Nebraska. It was one of his best times. Following his time on the ranch, he received his Associate of Arts degree from Estherville Jr. College.
He married Judy Jo Raymond in 1963 and went on to Iowa City where Arnie received his Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Iowa. He was a loyal Hawkeye fan and always told his daughters when they were of age and wanted to go to college somewhere else, “They don’t have Hawkeyes there.” After college he went to work at Pioneer Hybrid in Des Moines. He and Judy later moved to Cedar Rapids where he was president of Norand Corporation until retiring in 1988.
They then moved to Lake Okoboji, Iowa where he had several fond memories. They were always together. They enjoyed taking rides in their Corvette and belonged to the Okoboji Corvette Club. He loved the days when he could cruise Lake Okoboji in his boat. The two spent winters in Englewood, Florida and traveled to Jackson Hole, Wyoming and South Dakota until they settled down in Ankeny, Iowa. Arnold and Judy were happily married for 58 years. Judy’s last words to Arnie were, “I’m always with you.”
Arnold was preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 58 years, Judy; two daughters, Karie Sunde (Troy Feller) of Marion and Shelley (Don) Blok of Ankeny, two grandchildren, Hayley Blok and Kevin Blok; five brothers, Verlyn (Sandy) Sunde, Merrill (Marsha) Sunde, Richard (Janet) Sunde, Glenn (Sandy) Sunde, and Wayne (Karen) Sunde; two sisters, Marian (Dale) Nielsen and Janis (Ivan) Brehmer; and many dear friends and family.
It was Arnold’s request that no services be held. Please direct all memorials to the American Cancer Society.

Judy: we will miss Arnie's friendship and his humor. His love for the Hawkeyes was always a top topic of conversation. Our coffee get togethers were especially meaningful these past many months until the Covid set in.
You have our love and well wishes ... Love, Angie & Woody

Dear Judy & Family,
Loving and heartfelt condolences on Arnie's passing. We made a lot of wonderful memories together here at Lake Okoboji and down on Manasota Key in Florida. Still recall Arnie always ordering his favorite prime rib end cut (well done) at The Lock & Key Restaurant while the rest of us enjoyed seafood. He was a creature of habit in this regard and a special friend who we will greatly miss.
May he deservedly rest in peace until we meet again.
Love,
Terry & Kay
