Barbara Jean Stiles, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026, at the age of 84. Barbara was born on August 27, 1941, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Robert and Laverne Moe.
She attended Mechanic Arts High School in St. Paul and graduated with the class of 1959. In 1960, Barbara married the love of her life, Ken Stiles, at Central Park Methodist Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. Together, they built a loving home and raised four children. Barbara took great pride in being a homemaker and mother, dedicating herself to her family and creating a warm, welcoming home filled with love, laughter, and wonderful memories.
Throughout her working years, Barbara held several positions. She worked in an office at Montana State University in Billings, Montana, and later worked in kitchen service for Ankeny Community Schools. While she was proud of her work, her greatest joy and accomplishment was caring for her family.
Barbara was a faithful parishioner of Ankeny United Methodist Church, where she and Ken attended together. Her faith and her family were important parts of her life.
Barbara had many interests and talents. She loved gardening and took great pleasure in feeding the birds that visited her yard. The cardinal was her favorite bird. She was an accomplished and creative crafter who enjoyed crocheting, knitting, quilting, and sewing. She also loved reading, golfing, doing puzzles, and baking. Her family will especially remember the delicious cinnamon rolls and caramel bars she made and shared with so much love.
Barbara was also a member of the Red Hat Society, a group of women who enjoyed wearing their red hats, meeting for coffee, visiting, and catching up with one another. She cherished the friendships and fellowship she found there.
Those who knew Barbara will remember her as a loving wife, devoted mother, talented homemaker, and kind friend. She gave so much of herself to the people she loved and created a lifetime of memories that her family will treasure. Her love, warmth, creativity, and caring spirit will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Norman Moe and Laverne Mildred (Hoen) Moe; her sister Doris “Candy” (Moe) Blasing; and both of her paternal and maternal grandparents.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Ken Stiles; their four children, Brenda (Bill) Walker, Keith Stiles, Todd (Diane) Stiles, and Mark (Lacey) Stiles; her grandchildren, Devan (Dallas) Walker-Brooks, Taylor (Ryan) Hemer, Kendall (Daniel) Way, Lauren (Dillan) Erickson, Ryan Stiles, Summer Stiles, and Shane Stiles; and her great-grandchildren, Graham, Miles, Weston, Harvey, and expected greatgranddaughter.
She leaves behind a legacy of love that will live on through her family, the home she lovingly created, and the many lives she touched. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
Services will be private. To honor the wonderful and compassionate care given to Barb, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Midwest. Donations can be submitted online through the Hospice of the Midwest website.
