Carl Edward Mitchell

Carl Edward Mitchell, 78, died November, 14, 2010 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston following complications of a brain tumor. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Ankeny Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ankeny Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.

Carl was born in Fancy Farm, KY to Carl and Mary Juanita (Cash) Mitchell. Following High School graduation, Carl joined the U.S. Air Force and served as a Staff Sergeant in the Korean War on the island of Guam. In June 1954 he received an honorable discharge and then moved to Des Moines, IA. He was employed by Taylor Refrigeration prior to his employment and retirement from Baker Electric.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Carl, 2 sisters, Carolyn and Juanita, and his step son, Robert Duvall.

Survivors include his wife Norma, 3 children from a previous marriage, James (Toni) Mitchell of Tulsa, OK; Don (Theresa) Mitchell of Cedar Rapids, IA; and Lora Mitchell of Tulsa, OK; step children, Kim (Doug) Graeve of CO; and Ted Duvall of Altoona, IA; sisters, Jayne Tuttle of Urbandale, IA; and Michelle Horning of Littleton, CO; 4 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 3 nieces and 3 nephews.
