

Charles M. Rinehart, 68, passed away Friday, December 3, 2010 at his home in Ankeny. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, December 6, 2010 at Ankeny Funeral Home, 1510 W. 1st St. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, December 7, at Ankeny Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors will be immediately following funeral services at Newton Union Cemetery, Newton, Iowa.
Charles was born October 2, 1942 in Columbia, Iowa to James and Marjorie Rinehart. He graduated from Newton High School in 1960. On April 24, 1961 Charles was united in marriage to Sheryl Hammer in Newton, Iowa. They moved to Ankeny, Iowa in 1967. He served in the Army for 2 years active and 20 years in the Army Reserves, he retired in 2002. Charles worked at Firestone as a Tire Builder, Supervisor in the tire room and worked in the North end rubber room. He also worked for Warner Plastics. He was a member of the United Steelworkers for 30 years before retiring in 1998, an active member of the Albaugh-McGovern American Legion Post 42. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, loved roller skating and loved driving his yellow 1934 Dodge Streetrod.
Survivors include his wife, Sheryl Rinehart of Ankeny; daughters, Lynette Stowe of Bondurant, Christine (Robert) McGuire of Ankeny, and Julie (Chad) Fleener of Slater; brothers, LeRoy (Shirley) Rinehart and Lynn (Nancy) Rinehart of Newton; sister, LaVonne Herndon of Osceola; 7 grandchildren, Cassandra and Katelyn Stowe, Emily, Alyson, and Megan McGuire, and Riley and Corey Fleener; sister-in-law, Bonnie Logue of Newton and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Howard Hammer; mother-in-law, Nadine White; step-father-in-law, Leonard White Jr.; brother-in-law, Doyle Logue; brother-in-law, Steve White; sister-in-law, Linda Hammer; and nephews, Troy Herndon and Shannon Logue.
