Clayton was a hard worker and built his own lawn care business called Cooper Lawn Care LLC and made it a success. He was very proud of this, as was his family. Clayton will never be forgotten for his kindness, compassion, and generosity; qualities he often kept hidden beneath his sarcasm and humor. That's what made him so unique. Clayton touched more lives than he probably realized. One friend said he was epic and legendary in his own unique way~ the kind of one-of-a-kind soul who left a mark on everyone he touched. Clayton was a dog lover and would adopt all of them if he could. His dog, Sadie, will miss him very much.
Clayton is survived by his mother, Kim Shugar of Ankeny; sister, Jenny Welch of Urbandale; nephews, Brayden and Jace Welch of Urbandale; his paternal grandparents, Wayne and Thelma Shugar of Ackley; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Jim Shugar of Ankeny; his cousin, Lindsey of Ankeny; aunt, Janelle Wilson of Jefferson; and maternal grandparents, Duane and Cora Lee Thielen of Hampton.
No formal services are planned at this time as there will be a celebration of life at a later date. The family asks that any memorials and donations be directed to the ARL in Clayton's name to honor his love for dogs.
In lieu of flowers, please send cards or memorials to the family at 516 SW 32nd Ct, Ankeny, IA, 50023.
