Delmar Rex Comstock

June 11, 1939August 18, 2018

Delmar Rex Comstock, 79, passed away Saturday, August 18, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. The visitation will be from 5-7PM, Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at Ankeny Funeral Home (1510 W. First St., Ankeny, IA 50023). Funeral services will be at 10:30AM, Thursday, August 23, 2018, at Ankeny Christian Church (2506 SW 3rd St Pl., Ankeny, IA 50023). Graveside services will take place at 3PM at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Memorials may be directed towards the Alzheimer’s Association.

Rex was born June 11,1939 to George and Darlene (Tucker) Comstock in Cedar, IA. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1957, enlisted in the Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1961. He was united to the love of his life, Mary Youngberg, on January 19,1958 at First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. They had 4 children together. Rex worked in sales for Tone’s Spice for thirty plus years. To keep active in his retirement years Rex delivered flowers for the Ankeny Hy-Vee, which he greatly enjoyed because it allowed him to make people’s day with the gift of flowers. Rex was a member of the Ankeny Christian Church and was strong in his faith. Rex was loved by everyone who meet him and he never met a person he couldn’t talk too. But most of all, Rex loved his family. He loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who meant the world to him.

Rex is survived by his wife, Mary; children: Jim (Deb) Comstock of Ceresco, NE, Bud (Laura) Comstock of Carlisle, Anne (Mark) Stokely of Bondurant and Kathy Comstock (John Consolver) of Johnston; 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and his brother, Donald Comstock of AZ. Rex is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wesley.

Rex will be missed by anyone who knew him. He was a great gentleman with a loving, caring personality. I had the pleasure to know him, work with him and become his friend while we worked at Tone’s Spices in the 70’s, 80’s & 90’s. Prayers to all of his family. 🙏🏻
Lisa and I are so sad that we are on vacation and can not be at his service.

I agree wholeheartedly with the words written by my brother's family in his obituary. Rex was a loving soul who made the lives of many better. He loved and was loved. Our parents' lifestyles consistently modeled loving God and loving others. My parents, Wes, Sue, and now Rex are enjoying a grand reunion in the kingdom of heaven; my plan is to join them.

Uncle Rex was such a great man. I remember visiting thier house in Oskalossa and getting free samples of grocery items that he had. We all thought it was great to get the new food snacks and juice snacks. I also loved watching Sunday football games at his house with everyone. He made sure we were all comfortable and always threw in a jab at my Chicago Bears. Such a Viking fan. Then I'll never forget when he drove his car and followed me out to Sidney, NE and helped me move in to my house when I started working for Cabela's. Rex was so kind and respectful man , qualities I've always admired. I'll miss him very much.

It was a honor to work with and know Rex at Tones back in 1991-94. Rex was a true gentleman, always kind and appreciative when asking for samples and pos material. I’m sorry to have lost touch... sending our sympathy to Mary and family. RIP sweet Rex.

I worked with Rex for just a short time at Hy-Vee Care. In that short time we worked together-he made an impact on me with his smile and how he cared about each of us that worked there.

When I had my first daughter, he brought a blanket made by his wife. It meant so much to me to have a homemade gift and 11 years later, my daughter still loves that blanket.

My prayers are with Rex’s family and friends.
