Dorothy “Karasek” Williams, 90, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2010 at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny. A Memorial Service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Sunny View Care Center with inurnment at Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport, Iowa at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 9, 2010.
Dorothy was born May 9, 1920 in Ridgeway, Illinois to Wiley and Bertha (Reister) Goforth. She had lived many years in Bettendorf before moving to Ankeny in 1998. Dorothy was the Owner/Operator of the Greenfront Tavern, Subway Restaurant and Bar and the Bettendorf Cab Company. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Bettendorf. Dorothy loved listening to country music, fishing, crossword puzzles, watching NASCAR races, gardening, golfing, baseball and doing antiquing work.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Penny (Tom) Marchik of Ankeny; four grandchildren, Sherri (Fred) Schwarz of New Hudson, MI, Michael (Yvonne) Marchik of Scottsboro, AL, David Marchik of Ankeny and Marianne (Ryan) Rivera of Johnston; five great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Goforth of Highland Heights, KY; daughter-in-law, Patricia Karasek of Bondurant and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her two husbands, Henry Karasek and Robert L. Williams; two brothers, Henry Goforth and Curtis Goforth and sister-in-law, Virginia Goforth.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
Family and friends are welcome to come to the Bettendorf VFW for a luncheon to follow the service at Oakdale Memorial Gardens to celebrate Dorothy’s life.
