Edward William Fox was born on January 27, 1947 in Sioux City, Iowa. Edd grew up on a farm near Homer, Nebraska and attended Wayne State College. Before completing his degree he joined the US Army and served in Korea. In the early '70's he traveled setting up computer systems for the Iowa Credit Union League. Later he worked as a foreman for Des Moines Cold Storage, and at the time of his retirement he was employed with Hy-Vee.
In 1986 Edd met and married the love of his life, Susie, and adopted her children Michael and Michele and their great story began. Becoming a father meant taking on the responsibility of taste testing Michele's Easy Bake Oven creations and rewarding good grades with whatever her heart desired; no matter the cost. Becoming Michael's father meant anxiously awaiting evenings playing catch and enjoying Scornovacca's pizza made especially for him by Michael.
The Fox family has lived in Des Moines, Maxwell and Ankeny. While living in Maxwell, Edd was elected Mayor in March of 1993. Although he wasn't even a candidate, the people of Maxwell wrote him in as their choice! He was very surprised when he received the call, but he graciously accepted the responsibility without reservation and served as the Mayor of Maxwell for two years.
Edd always looked forward to his annual spring fishing trip with his long-time friend, Jerry Stahl. The friends continued their annual trip to the boundary waters in Canada for many years. Edd & Stahl also enjoyed their many deer-hunting trips at a rustic cabin in Fairview, Kansas.
Edd and Susie enjoyed visiting Disney World fourteen times over the years. They loved every minute of every trip making a lifetime of memories. They also became regular visitors at their favorite bed and breakfast in Monticello, Minnesota. They developed a close friendship with the owners, Duffy and Merrill, and enjoyed each other's company in their beautiful home.
Edd was always proud of his five years of service in the Army where he became a Staff Sargent. He always said, "I am very proud to have served and I would do it all again. The memories will stay with me forever."
Edd is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Susie; daughter, Michele (Chris) Mease; sister, Jean Fox; and brother, Bob Fox. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael; brother, Richard Fox; and sister, Susan Mills.
We want to thank all of you, our dear family and friends, for caring and praying for us, and we thank you for celebrating Edd's life with us today.
