Henry was born in Omaha, Nebraska, to Clarence Schnackel and Mary Moffet. From an early age, he developed the qualities that would define his life: curiosity, perseverance, and a willingness to take on any challenge. He was the kind of man who would begin a project without knowing exactly how to accomplish it, then patiently work through each problem until he figured it out. His resourcefulness and confidence inspired those around him and served him well throughout his life.
A hardworking man, Henry held a variety of jobs over the years, including serving in the Marine Corps, working in can manufacturing, bread manufacturing, and as a computer technician. In his later years, he worked as an electrical contractor, bringing the same dedication and problem-solving skills to every task he undertook.
Beyond his work, Henry found joy in the outdoors. He loved boating and water skiing and spent many treasured days on the lake surrounded by family and friends. He took great pride in teaching his family how to water ski, sharing not only the skill but also his enthusiasm for life on the water. He also taught Phyllis to water ski, and when she fell, he would lovingly tease her with a smile and say, "Do better!" It was a simple joke that reflected his playful spirit and the affection he had for those he loved.
Henry appreciated the beauty of nature, especially the peaceful views around the lake. Whether enjoying the scenery, watching wildlife, or simply spending time outdoors, he found happiness in the natural world. He was equally adventurous in the winter months and enjoyed snow skiing, often choosing the most difficult hills and embracing the challenge.
Those who knew Henry will remember him as a sweet and caring man who genuinely loved his family. He cared deeply for Phyllis, and one of the final things he told her before his passing was, "I love you." Those words reflected a lifetime of devotion, affection, and commitment.
Henry's memory lives on in the lessons he taught, the challenges he overcame, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Phyllis Schnackel; his children, Ricky Schnackel, Jeffrey (Lynn) Schnackel, Stephen Schnackel, and Coral Trenhaile; his six grandchildren, Eric, Nicole, Marty, Rebekah, Jenny, and Danielle; and his 10 great-grandchildren, three girls and seven boys.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Schnackel and Mary Moffet; his two brothers, Stanley Schnackel and Dale Schnackel; and his sister, Grace Keisner.
