Howard H. Gibbons was born April 18, 1923 in Linden, Iowa to Florence and Cecil Gibbons. He went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday July 27, 2011 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston due to complications from a fall. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Ankeny Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Ankeny Funeral Home with burial at Sheldahl Cemetery.

Howard graduated from Cooper High School in 1941. He married Grace Canfield on November 29, 1943 and to this union four children were born. He worked on a farm for several years before moving to the Alleman area where he worked for Hale Implement in Des Moines, the Alleman Co-op, Polk County, and Huxley Ace Hardware. He then delivered medication for the local pharmacist until his health failed.

Howard enjoyed his family, church, fishing, bowling, and his Chicago “Cubbies”!

He is survived by his wife, Grace, son Robert (Marilyn) Gibbons, daughters Kathy (Duane) Buster, and Dixie Gibbons, 10 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, 3 sisters, 1 son David, and granddaughter Rhonda.
