

He graduated from Hoover High School in Des Moines, Iowa in 1982. He obtained his Undergraduate Degree in Education from Iowa State University in 1993. He was a proud parent of two children, Colin and Micah. He worked as a teacher in Texas for 29 years retiring in 2022. He then moved back to Iowa and began new employment as a para-professional with the Ankeny School District. Due to his quick wit, he had a special gift of being able to develop close connections with his students.
He was an avid sports fan cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Vikings and Houston Astros. In his free time, he enjoyed reading, hiking and traveling to National Parks, and serving the homeless community in Des Moines by delivering food and essential supplies.
He was survived by his children Colin Anderson of Conroe, TX and Micah Anderson of College Station, TX, his brother Jon (Carrie) Anderson and his nephews Nicholas (Bryanne) Anderson and Andrew Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents James Anderson and Sharon Anderson.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday August 24, 2026, at Ankeny Funeral Homes, 1510 West First Street, Ankeny, Iowa. An invocation and prayer will be held at 5:15 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Pathway Church in Johnston, Iowa to support their Homeless Outreach Ministry.
