Jay, beloved husband, father, brother, papa, and friend, passed away on August 8, 2024, at the age of 65. A memorial service will be held August 15, 2024 at 3:00 pm at Ankeny Funeral Home. A visitation will be held one hour prior from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
Born on May 3, 1959, Jay grew up in West Des Moines, Iowa. He attended Dowling High School before moving to Wisconsin, where he graduated from Cedarburg High School in 1977.
Jay had a successful 20-year career in sales, but his true passions were his family, golf, the Iowa Hawkeyes, Milwaukee Brewers, and the outdoors. He spent countless hours on the golf course, enjoying the game he loved and passing that love on to others. In his free time, Jay was also an entrepreneur. He built and owned Creekview Golf and Batting Cages, and later founded Creekview Golf Academy, where he dedicated himself to teaching children how to safely hone their golf skills. His commitment to youth sports extended to his volunteer work with The First Tee of Central Iowa, where he helped kids pursue their passion for golf.
Jay married the love of his life, Patricia (Rude) Daly, on St. Patrick's Day in 2001. The couple shared 23 wonderful years together, filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. Jay loved being a father to his two boys, Ian and Chris, step children Jeremy, Krystal, and Ryan, and was known for being a doting "Papa" to his 10 grandchildren. Jay’s passion for life was evident in everything he did, from tending to his lawn and flowers to feeding the very fat squirrels that frequented his yard.
Jay is survived by his loving wife Patricia; his children, Ian (Sarah) Daly, Chris Daly, Jeremy (Shannon) Magill, Krystal Ruby, and Ryan (Allissa) Magill; and his siblings, Jeff (Teri) Daly and Diane (Tom) New. He was the proud grandfather of Tanner Ruby, Sadie Ruby, Kaigan Magill, Dayton Ruby, Emersyn Magill, Grace Daly, Gavin Daly, Jonathan Daly, Isaac Daly, and Lottie Magill. Jay is also survived by three nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents Timothy and Velma Jean, and his grandparents.
Jay’s warmth, love for his family, and enthusiasm for life will be fondly remembered by those who knew him. He was a man of simple pleasures, who found joy in the game of golf, caring for his yard, and the company of his loved ones. Though not one to seek the spotlight, Jay’s presence brought comfort and happiness to those around him. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, who will cherish the memories they shared with him. Go Hawks!
