Joel McComb, 61, passed away Saturday, June 25, at his home in Ankeny. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 29, at Ankeny Funeral Home, 1510 W. 1st St., Ankeny. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 30, 2011 at the funeral home with burial at 12:30 p.m. in Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, IA.
Joel was born December 29, 1949 to Paul and Rhoda McComb in Clarinda, Iowa. He served his county with the Iowa National Guard for 40 years, and was a Vietnam veteran. He retired in 2009 as a Chief Warrant Officer 5.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley McComb of Ankeny; children, Juli (Curt) Accola of Huxley and Eric McComb of Cedar Falls; grandsons, Ethan, Carter, and Lance Accola; and siblings, David (Marnice) McComb, Dan (Sandra) McComb, and Sue McComb. He is preceded in death by his parents, and infant brother, Kevin.
